Community service in the Phoenix ASG is moving right along. Although I have not received all the items various groups have been sewing for community service this summer I know you all have been busy. The most popular being the military bags for Operation Care. Remember to include a gallon size Ziploc bag in the finished bag and a brief note of thanks to our troops is appreciated.

We still need nap quilts for Phoenix College day nursery. The quilt should be 30-35 inches x 40-45 inches. The quilt should also be cotton top and bottom with a cotton or poly batting in very kid friendly colors and patterns. If they are tied, the ties need to be knotted well with short thread tails.

For those members new to the Phoenix ASG, we have several community service projects going all the time. We have Phoenix ASG labels for community service projects. You can get them from your Neighborhood Group Leader or contact me and I will send them to you. Members can work on their favorites independently or as part of a group activity. Upon completing a project turn the item or items into the Community Service Chair with a form identifying yourself and how many items. I can then account for this and award you tickets for the annual community service drawing in January. The award given is determined by the board each year.

Each year we try to support the National ASG project. This year it is military bags for Operation Care to fill. The pattern is available on the National web site (ASG.ORG) under the Community Service tab. If you get to me I will mail them on with others I collect. Also, we are always collecting pillowcases for Ronald McDonald House. There is a pattern on the Phoenix ASG web site. We also can use bereavement gowns for preemie babies. These go to the hospitals. Currently, I have enough stockings and walker bags. I will let you know when we need more.

I also know that the state fair is coming up and there is usually a group headed up by member Ericka Doyle to guide kids through small projects. Contact her about helping out and help Tag Another Generation.

Respectfully submitted,
Kay Newberg
