Gift Bag Instructions
Supplies:
10 ½” cotton fabric
45” wide1 yard raffia or ribbon
*See options below before sewing the gift bag.
1. Fold fabric so that RIGHT sides are together and selvages match.
2. Starting at the fold, stitch ¼” seam on both sides of bag.
3. Form “sack” bottom by folding corners to 45-degree angles and stitch 1 ¼” from the point.
4. Fold down the white selvage edge around the top of the bag. Press.
5. Fold again down to inside of bag about 4” to form cuff. DO NOT PRESS at the top of cuff.
6. Pin the inside of the cuff for ease in sewing close to the folded edge.
7. Place bag around sleeve arm on machine and stitch cuff in place along the inside folded edge.
8. Turn bag inside out, pushing out the squared corners with your fingers.
9. Place cookbook inside, gather top together and tie with raffia or ribbon.
*Patches may be designed with embroidery machines or any appliqué design using a satin stitch. If a patch is used, apply 3”-4” up from the bottom fold after Step 1. For best results, use a fabric adhesive product such as Wonder Under before stitching it to the bag front. * An ornament may be tied with the raffia or ribbon for a fun effect.
